A new version of the innovative Oxley miniature ‘ball and socket connector system’ (SMOX) enables test points to be mounted on to the edge of a PCB. Developed from the established Oxley range of surface mount SMOX test points, this low profile, edge-mounted connector is only possible due to the unique connector mechanism that allows the flying leads to be connected and disconnected from the test point without putting any stress on the PCB. The new edge-mount SMOX connector provides engineers with a convenient way of connecting test, analysis or programming equipment to a PCB, particularly where space on the board is at a premium.

Oxley has long been respected as an innovative designer and manufacturer of quality precision components and the edge-mounted SMOX is certainly no exception. The unique design of the SMOX connection system gives these components a distinct advantage over conventional pin header connectors as low resistivities can be achieved with a flexible and compliant socket minimising the possibility of damage to PCB’s during test.

The design of these components allows for fast and accurate placement on PCB’s using the latest available pick and place technology and they are supplied taped and reeled for placement speeds in excess of 40,000 units per hour.
